Welsh Champion
Simon Gwyn Roberts, who used to live in St Asaph, is the Champion of Wales for 2011 for hill racing in the V40 category, and second in the overall Open competition.
He had already run four of the races in all four corners of Wales - Llanbedr-Blaenafon (Monmouthshire), Llangynhafal Loop (Clwydian Hills), 1000m Peaks (Snowdonia) and Ras Beca (Ceredigion).The title was confirmed after the final race in the series in the Breidden Hills (Powys) in October.
He attended the VP School, Esgob Morgan and Denbigh High before attending universities in England and worked in London for about seven years before returning to north east Wales. He now lives in Flintshire with his wife and two children, works as a University Lecturer, and is a member of Buckley Road Runners.
Simon has run many marathons, in addition to his preference for hill running and mountain marathons, including Snowdonia, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Chester, Liverpool, London, Paris, Amsterdam and Jungfrau marathons. He represented North Wales Masters in the Welsh 10k championships in 2010.
On Sunday 6 November he added another title to his collection by winning the V40 prize at the North Wales 5 mile championships in Abergele. Simon is the son of former Mayor, Cllr. D.I. Roberts and Mrs. Pat Roberts of Upper Denbigh Road.
