Rotary News

Recently St.Asaph Rotary hosted six young adults from New Zealand in a Group Study Exchange whereby young professionals gain an insight into life in Britain and a group from the Rotary district will visit New Zealand in return. The Kiwis were housed at Rotarians’ homes and visited such sites as Llangollen canal, Erddig Hall, the Urdd Eisteddfod and also visited places related to their own vocation. The group are pictured being shown around the Cathedral by Rosemary Solbé.

This year the club has introduced community awards for people and groups who have done outstanding work in the community. City Times Editor, Denise Hodgkinson, was delighted to receive an award on behalf of the everyone involved in the production and delivery over the fourteen years that the City Times has helped bring the community together with "a lively and informative newspaper".
An award was also presented by Rotary President, Tom Yuille to Jefferson Thomas ( far right) who, many years ago, formed the Phoenix Choir from a Rhyl school choir. Since then over £8,000 has been raised from performances for local charities.

At the end of the Rotary Year, the end of June, President Tom Yuille handed over the chain of office to the new President, Chris Smith. Tom was thanked for his work in achieving an excellent year for Rotary and Chris was looking forward to an equally successful year.
Two members were also honoured by the presentation of the prestigious ‘Paul Harris’ awards. Bryn Jones and David Knight received the award for outstanding Service to the Rotary movement.
