Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline - Please Support It
In support of a locally based Chernobyl Children Life Line Charity, Dr. F. Clements is giving a talk on ‘Juvenile and Female Crime in Victorian Denbighshire’ on Thursday, September 25th, at 7.30pm in the Village Hall, Trefnant. Admission will be by ticket (£4), students (£2), obtainable in the village shop/post office or by telephone to 01745 730696 0r 01745 730091. Refreshments and a raffle will be available.
All proceeds will go to support those children of Belarus who are suffering from the effects of radiation following the nuclear accident at Chernobyl in 1986. Children - including thousands born long after the accident - still suffer from damaged immune systems, so much so that their life expectancy is only about 21 years.
This charity brings some of those children to the Rhyl/Prestatyn area for one month. Even such a short visit is proving to add three to four years to their lives, however, it costs over £500 to bring just one child for one month. Please support this wonderful cause. |
New RBL Standard Dedicated
The St. Asaph Branch of the Royal British Legion held a combined service of Dedication and Laying Up of the branch standards at the Cathedral on June 1st.
The Standard of the North Wales District, local branch standards and standards of other organisations all paraded into the Cathedral under the command of North Wales District Parade Marshal, Steve Evans.
The service was conducted by the Dean, the Very Rev. Chris Potter, assisted by the Vicar. The Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd, Mr. Trefor Jones, CBE., and the High Sheriff were in attendance along with the Mayor of St. Asaph, Cllr. Mrs. Elsie Powell and her consort, the Chairman of Denbighshire County Council, Cllr. R. Bartley and his wife, two members of the Welsh Assembly Government and representatives of neighbouring RBL branches.
The address was given by the President of the North Wales District of the Royal British Legion, Philip Eyton-Jones. George Hornby, Chairman of Denbigh Branch, read a poem he had composed for the service entitled "The Standard". The Exhortations were read by Bob Roberts, President of Denbigh Branch and Peter Thomas, a St. Asaph member, sang a solo entitled "The Trumpeter". Jim Tunney, Buckley RBL, played the bugle. The organist at the service was Cathedral Organist and Choirmaster, Alan McGuinness.
The St. Asaph standard bearer, Mrs. Connie Macintosh, who has given many years of ceremonial duty to the Branch, was supported at the service by branch Chairman, Mr. John Mountcastle. Vice-Chairman, Martin Hargraves and branch member Bill Taylor served as Standard escorts.
Following the service a Welsh Tea was served in the dean’ Library.
The Branch thanks everyone for the support received.
