Civic Sunday
The Mayor of St. Asaph, Cllr. Mrs. Elsie Powell and her consort, Mr. Barry Powell, pictured with their family following the Mayoral Civic Sunday service at the Cathedral.
Blessed with a beautiful summer day, the Mayor and her guests, including the Chairman of Denbighshire County Council and the civic heads of surrounding local authorities, attended the service before gathering at the Council/Community Room on Roe Plas to enjoy a delightful buffet lunch and a rare opportunity to relax and socialise in warm sunshine.
Beat the Bounds
The eleventh ‘Beat the Bounds’ walk was held recently when well over 200 people of all ages, and many dogs, walked the 4.5 mile route.
Fortune smiled on the event for, despite the unreliable weather to date this summer, the walk took place on a beautifully warm and sunny afternoon with the picturesque views across the river Clwyd at their best as the crowds ambled across the fields, over stiles and across rivers to receive their certificate of completion.
Over £215 was raised on the day and the Rotary Club of St. Asaph, who took over the event for the first time, would like to thank all those who helped and took part in the walk.
The proceeds enabled a donation of £300 to the Huntington’s Disease Association thanks to a generous donation from The Farmer’s Arms and a top up from Rotary funds.

Library Loses Another Half Day
Denbighshire County Council has announced that St. Asaph L:ibrary will close on Thursday afternoons as from October.
Following the previous round of cuts which reduced Thursday opening to a half day, the new cuts will mean that the library will be closed all day on Thursday.
Only three of the county libraries will be affected by this latest reduction in the service with Rhuddlan closing on Monday evenings and Rhyl Library open three nights a week instead of four.
A Denbighshire County Council Cabinet agreed that a reduction in opening hours at three libraries was the preferred savings option and this was agreed.
Councillor Morfudd Jones, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for libraries, said "We believe the effects of the decision will be minimal as we have used vacancies as a way of raising the savings needed The knock-on effect is a minimal reduction in opening hours at three libraries. All other libraries across the county are unaffected.
Customers at St. Asaph library were unhappy with the decision and asked why St. Asaph was being targeted once again.
"It seems that when anything detrimental has to happen St. Asaph is always the target and yet, when anything beneficial is on the cards, St. Asaph is forgotton," said one library customer.
Blue Badges at One Stop Shop
Blue badge disability parking permits are now available at One Stop Shops as part of a new initiative being introduced by Denbighshire County Council. The scheme will make it easier and more convenient for the public to access the service locally.
Until now it has only been possible to submit applications to obtain or renew a Blue Badge at One Stop Shops but, as the service rolls out across the County, it will be possible to have them issued on site.
