Simon Makes the U18’s Welsh Squad
Sixteen years old Simon Hodgkinson recently became the youngest and the only North Wales hockey player to make the Welsh under 18’s squad 2007/08.
Simon, pictured third from the right, front row, played his first under 18’s international against France in Paris on June 21st when they lost the first game and drew the second. The squad are now in training for the Home Nations Tournament in Cardiff followed, hopefully, by the UK School Games at Bristol at the end of August when hockey will be included for the first time. Simon is a first team player with the Rhyl and District Hockey Club where his father, Jeff, is also a key player and coach.

Kwik Cricket Final
Following a series of matches across the county the finals of the 2008 schools Kwik Cricket competition sponsored by Asda was held at St. Asaph Cricket Club.
Kwik cricket is a comparatively recent form of the game intended to introduce children to cricket and encourage them to take up the sport.
Among the spectators were St. Asaph County Councillors, Dewi Owens and Bill Cowie; representatives of Denbighshire County Council Sports Department; Sue Ellis, Asda Events Organiser and John Huband, North Wales Cricket Development Officer.

Saints Strive to Improve
With the season well underway St. Asaph’s cricket teams’ results to date have been poor, an exodus of several players pre-season being the chief reason for the downturn in performance. However, there are now signs of a recovery with both the lst and 2nd XI’s recently gaining much needed victories.
The junior sides continue to offer hope for the future with a number of young players making their way into the 2nd XI.
Daniel Ryan, a member of the Club’s successful under 11’s team, last week scored a family hat trick by becoming the third of the Ryan brothers to be selected to play for North East Wales.
On the Social scene the players organised a 6 a-side competition on Sunday, June 29th, which proved a social and financial success. Menai Bridge ran out worthy winners narrowly winning an exciting final against the home club. The event made a profit from which a donation of £50 was made to the Special Care Baby Unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital.
