Library News

School’s Out For Summer! But all we hear about is ‘credit crunch’. So now is the time to make the most of your Free Local Library Service.
It’s not often you hear the word ‘Free’ these days but there are many free services at the Library including:-
Books for all ages for a three week loan and longer periods (providing they are renewed prior to the return date) including Top 10 Best Sellers. Book requests are FREE; Talking Books on DVD or Tape; Computer use including Internet Access (printing is payable at 10p for b/w and 30p for colour; local papers and some magazines to read within the library; Local photo archive with DVD to view; A selection of local history books; Ordnance Survey Maps for reference( sections may be photocopied if you are interested in walking); Reading Group - First Thursday in the month at 7.30pm in the library. Next meeting September 4th when books by Sebastian Faulks will be under discussion; DVD’s are available for hire at £2 per week.
There are also a number of activities for children taking place at the library including Craft Sessions on August 7th and 28th from 2 - 3.30pm for 4 to 11 year olds; Reading Plus, quarter hour sessions where children read with a member of staff; Team Read - Reading Challenge which requires children to visit the library four times and read six books over the summer holidays to receive a certificate and medal on completion; Bookstart , a scheme to encourage children from an early age to discover libraries and the joy of reading. New members aged 0 - 3 years receive a free gift on joining and, as shown in the picture above, it is never too early to start; Story and Rhyme Times is also for the very young with children from 0 - 5 years enjoying half an hour of stories and nursery rhymes on a Wednesday morning from 10 - 10.30am.
With such a lot going on in the library and a busy ‘One Stop Shop’ facility also providing a very necessary service to residents, it is sad that Denbighshire County Council feel compelled to reduce the hours and deprive St. Asaph of a full day’s service when the new cuts come into operation in October and the library is forced to close all day Thursday. USE IT OR LOSE IT is the message from Library Staff.
