Double Retirement

The autumn term at St. Asaph’s V.P. Infants School will see new faces at the helm.
On Friday, July 18th, both Headmistress Miss Sue Williams and long serving teacher Mrs. Ann Hughes, retired.
Miss Williams, after 23 years at the school, won’t be too far away as she is taking on the post of manager at Sugar Dandy’s Nursery in Chester Street, while Mrs. Hughes, after 33 years at the school, will enjoy having more time to spend on the things she has an interest in. Parents, staff and pupils wished them well in the future and expressed grateful thanks to both for more than half a century of valuable service to the school.
Mrs. Hughes has asked the City Times to convey her sincere thanks to everyone for their kindness and contribution to her retirement from the V.P. School.
"It has been a privilege to spend most of my professional career amongst you all", she said.
Miss Susan Williams also expressed her gratitude to staff, parents and friends of the school for their support and kindness over the past years.
"Being so close to the school in my new job is helping me through the leaving process because I feel that I will still be in touch," she said.
The retirement of these two key figures in the school with over half a century of service between them will mean that the new term will bring exciting new challenges and new faces for those pupils returning after the summer holidays.

Mother’s Union

St. Asaph Mother’s Union held a joint party when they invited other denominations to join them for afternoon tea and entertainment.
The group will be holding their open meeting on September 17th at 2pm in the Old Palace and would welcome anyone wishing to join them.

Garden Party

On one of the rare warm and sunny afternoons of this summer a Garden Party was held at the Old Palace when residents and members of the community, including the Mayor, Cllr. Elsie Powell, enjoyed a most enjoyable cream tea and entertainment.
Music was provided by the Moon dance duo and a fascinating display of Mediterranean Dance brought a real touch of the exotic to the proceedings.
A number of the Residents and friends gave a demonstration of seated exercise for which classes are held in the Old Palace.
The event was a huge success - the sun shone and everyone enjoyed a very pleasant and relaxing afternoon.
Thanks go to Mrs. Margaret Catherall and her helpers for organising the event.
