Council Worker of the Year update

A Denbighshire countryside warden narrowly missed winning the Council Worker of the Year award for bravery at a prestigious awards ceremony in Bournemouth recently.
Garry Davies was nominated by Denbighshire's Chief Executive, Ian Miller, for jumping into the sea with James Larminine to try and rescue Mr Eddie Lewis who was spotted in difficulties off Barkby Beach, Prestatyn. Despite pulling him to safety and administering first aid, Mr Lewis sadly died.
Garry was one of six nominations in the bravery category and there were only two Welsh nominees among the 42 finalists chosen from 350 entries. The Council Worker of the Year awards were organised by the Local Government Association.
Chief Executive, Ian Miller, said: "After an excellent competition and a very impressive set of nominations in the bravery category, all the nominees were acknowledged with a standing ovation at the event. While Garry didn't win overall, his brave act and nomination have brought great credit to him and to the council".

New Playground Opened

St. Asaph Mayor, Councillor Elsie Powell and her consort, Mr. Barry Powell, were joined by Denbighshire County Council Chairman, Cllr. Ray Bartley and Mrs. Bartley, at the official opening of the new playground recently. The colourful new playground with the adjoining area of skateboarding equipment cost £80,000 and was funded by a payment from K&C Construction as a result of their purchase of the former Pilkington Sports Field which they acquired for the building of business units to further the extension of the St. Asaph Business Park. The event was attended by members of the Town Council, representatives of County Council and members of Esgob Morgan School Council with headmistress, Mrs. Helen Roberts.
